Louisville Zoo

Sonya's first trip to the zoo was last weekend with Mom and Dad, Robyn ("Roddin" as Sonya has dubbed her), and Grandma and Pap, my parents. It turned into a long day in the sun, and smart Mom and Dad didn't bring the stroller, so that made it even more "fun."

We saw many animals, and their sizes were baffling! Watching nature shows on a TV screen dwarfs the awesomeness of how massive God made the animals that walk the earth.

When we saw the orangutan, I seriously thought we had finally caught the Yeti. Whoa! His cheeks move on their own, with feelers on them that crawled along the glass like little spiders. Weird.

Among the other creatures we marvelled at were the tortoises, rhinos, lions, and the ostrich. Huge!

The tortoise seemed to smile at us, thankful that we weren't able to sit on h is back! Mommy's favorite were the rare maned wolves, which look like foxes on stilts. It's hard to get pictures that really do the animals justice, through the bars and fences.

By the grace of the the change floating around in Pap's pocket, Sonya also had her first carousel ride. She chose the "black monkey" to ride (gorilla), and then on a second ride with Dad, she ended up on the panda bear, after hopping from the cheetah to the polar bear to the zebra! It was great time, and we plan to go back and visit again this summer.
