Away Awhile
Seems as if I have been away a while. I am still with myself and the fam so I guess I don't miss updates from myself as much as my family and friends have been perstering me to give them. Lots of nothing has happened to us, but all those nothings are somethings, even if they would be small and insignificant elsewhere.
We had a lovely visit from Grammy at the beginning of June, which seems early to start celebrating summer to a former Virginian, but KY starts early. We visited many of our frequent haunts, including the park, bookstore, and pool so Grammy to see how great our new home is. Grammy was also the motivation to pick up potty training again, which I think may be about 75% complete?!?!
A month later, after many trips to the pool at the Pavilion (an indoor pool quite suitable for little ones) I was able to experience Sonya's first plane rides, as we journeyed to see Pap and Gramma...and Scratch and Rhett. Dad was driving as we were flying, with Doc as his silent companion. Yes, I felt a little guilty, but not that much!
We spent nearly everyday in the pool at Mom and Dad's compound in NC, as well as lots of playing in Pap's "bus," (his new RV), playdough, bubbles, and stickers with Gramma. Sonya warmed up to Pap so quickly this visit, and they spent many a moment together, playing hide and seek. Dad drove the "bus" to Mississippi that weekend, much to the chagrin of Rhett, who mourned his departure ever so soulfully on his bed next to the window...for an entire day.
Life in GT has been full of playdates at the park, running around with the dog, swimming, and lots of reading. Sonya loves books and we are at the library weekly. Hope that love never dies. She has been quite the lovey girl these past months, expressing love for grapes and MowMow (who we left on the last plane ride, but thankfully the airlines had him!) and goldfish. She has also expressed much love for Mommy and Daddy, much to our delight and clutching chests holding back sentimental tears, but the flood gates opened when she said that she loved Jesus in her heart. I know that it is much too young to expect an accountability for that, but the hope that her heart already belongs to her Lord is so comforting.
The rest of life has circled around volunteering with the construction of the school I will be teaching at on Monday, August 13. It is a small Christian school, and I am happy for the opportunity to serve in a teaching capacity, and it is only once a week. While I am teaching, B and I decided to put Sonya in the preschool where I would be teaching, and she is excited about playing with kids and her new teachers. I worried for a while about this choice, but I have been put at ease about it daily since. New school clothes have been bought, and a lady bug lunch bag, and she has been playing school for the past few days.
